EuroDrop®: The Story Behind the Ultimate Dropper System

by Carow Packaging  |   May 23, 2024

As the essential oil market continues its rapid expansion, with an expected CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 7.6% over the next five years, the need for safe, precise and sustainable packaging solutions has become more and more critical. Any packaging solution must be flexible enough to accommodate the wide variety of essential oils. These include viscous oils like argan, sandalwood and vetiver to thinner and more porous ones like peppermint and lemon. Getting the proper dispensing system that can assure a consistent flow rate for all these liquids, while being compatible with various cap options including child-resistant caps, is essential. Fortunately, Carow came up with the ideal dispensing solution more than 30 years ago.

The Beginning of a Revolution

In 1994, Carow Packaging faced a significant challenge. At the time, many of Carow’s larger customers relied on glass bottles with dropper inserts and caps sourced from Germany. The extended lead time for these components—sometimes exceeding 16 weeks from order to delivery—hampered customers' ability to respond quickly to market demands and maintain steady supply chains.

Recognizing the need for a more agile solution, Bob and Steve Carow took decisive action. They initiated a bold move to stock a variety of materials directly, including bottles, inserts and dropper caps, drastically reducing the waiting period to a few days instead of several months.

Eventually, Carow ordered dropper bottles with inserts and caps to help control the flow rate of essential oils. The new inserts initially caused some confusion, as the dropper inserts were mistaken for a complete dropper. To clarify this and effectively brand, the Carow team renamed the system, “EuroDrop.” This not only resolved the confusion but also positioned the product as a distinctive, trademarked solution in the marketplace. Carow owns the original trademark for EuroDrop and is the sole domestic manufacturer of EuroDrop products.

Why EuroDrop?

EuroDrop essentially transformed the dispensing landscape by offering a faster, more reliable and more efficient dropper system. With shorter lead times and a product that could quickly adapt to various needs, EuroDrop has a multitude of benefits, including:

Our customers have been increasingly asking us for sustainable packaging options, most specifically post-consumer recycled (PCR) glass bottles. Knowing that there is demand, we wanted to share some of the latest studies, reports, and laws regarding sustainability and packaging, as well as packaging product options.

Shapes and Sizes

The Carow EuroDrop system offers a wide range of orifice sizes, including 0.55mm, 0.7mm, 0.85mm, 1.0mm, 1.2mm and 1.8mm. This packaging works with any 18DIN cap and 18DIN bottle. This variety allows users to control the flow rate of their essential oils with total accuracy. Each EuroDrop bottle can be capped using either regular, child-resistant, tamper-evident, or tamper-evident and child-resistant caps.

Commitment to Safety

Child-resistant caps are a cornerstone of Carow’s EuroDrop design. These caps not only comply with stringent safety regulations, like the Poison Prevention Packaging Act from the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC), but also reassure consumers about the integrity and safety of their purchase. This feature is crucial and allows consumers to see Carow’s commitment to safety across the entire product line.

Locally Manufactured

Made in the USA, EuroDrop caps benefit from reduced lead times and greater quality control. Domestic production supports local businesses and minimizes delays often associated with overseas shipping, so you can get your product swiftly and reliably.

Eco-Friendly Design

EuroDrop uses recyclable resins for its caps, and its glass bottles have high Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) content. Carow is dedicated to environmental sustainability, and our eco-friendly practices help us reduce our carbon footprint while still meeting consumer demands.

Advanced Design Compatible with Automation

The EuroDrop dropper is meticulously designed to integrate with both fully automated capping machines as well as manual capping chucks, making it efficient in lines of all sizes. This design principle stays consistent with Carow’s approach in our high-volume production environments.

Customization and Brand Differentiation

The goal of any company is to stand out. EuroDrop stands tall with its customizable options, offering 12 standard caps and colors and four bottle colors, along with various coating options for unique branding needs. Similar customization options are also available in our other packaging solutions, allowing brands to maintain consistency and distinction across the product ranges that we support.
